Hidden Mirage

The Columbia River Gorge, a secluded haven, lies at the end of a perilous, moss-laden slot canyon. Intense storms, unprecedented downpours, and gorge flooding from relentless rain - an ideal time to capture the moment! This breathtaking scene presented numerous challenges to access. Timing, tenacity, and a touch of daring were essential. Navigating upstream from the river's mouth was uncertain but necessary. Enormous logjams and deep pools demanded wading chest-high. Safeguarding equipment from water damage was paramount. There was no point reaching the location with faulty gear. The sole entry was through narrow cliff walls, carrying gear overhead. After such a deluge, the only viable vantage point was in the stream's center. As water thundered through the gorge, mist and rain obscured the camera. A few exposures, fueled by adrenaline and intuition, created the magic. Briefly, the sun pierced through, illuminating the canyon walls, adding an ethereal, mystical touch. Only one word describes the scene: awe-inspiring. What a location, what a feat, what a shot!
